Fenix Lights with Strobe
A strobe is the mode you hope you rarely need: a rapid flash at high output that grabs attention from a distance and makes it hard for anyone facing it to look straight at the light. On a dark highway shoulder, a trail after sunset or a near-empty parking lot after a late shift, it can call for help or buy you a few seconds to step back and get away. This list covers flashlights, lanterns and bike lights that include it.
How you reach strobe matters
Strobe is only useful if you can find it without looking. The PD35 V3.0 puts instant strobe on its tail switch, so it fires from off with no cycling through modes. The PD35R ACE lets you customize how its strobe behaves through SET mode. The PD40R V3.0 takes a different route: you turn the rotary head to the strobe position, a deliberate move that will not happen by accident in a pocket. On other models strobe sits in the regular menu, which is fine for signalling. Compare more fast-access designs under tactical lights.
Signal first, distance second
Most strobe use is about being seen: flagging down a tow truck, showing a search party where you are, or warning traffic around a stalled vehicle. The bike lights on this page use a flash mode for the same reason, so drivers notice you in the early evening dark. For personal safety, think of strobe as a distraction that buys seconds to move away, reach a lit area and call for help, not as something to confront anyone with. Our personal safety lights page and duty flashlight guide go further.

Frequently asked questions
- Will a strobe stop someone who is threatening me?
- There is no guarantee. A bright strobe makes it hard to look at the light and can cause a moment of hesitation, which is the opening you use to get away, get to a lit, busy place and call for help. A light you can reach and fire instantly from a pocket or holster matters more than the strobe pattern itself.
- Can I hit strobe by accident on these lights?
- It depends on the switch. Tail-switch strobe on the PD35 V3.0 needs a deliberate press, and the PD40R V3.0 only strobes when you rotate the head to that position. The PD35R ACE lets you set up how strobe behaves through SET mode. Check the manual on each product page to see the exact click pattern before you buy.
- Is strobe as bright as the highest steady mode?
- On many flashlights here, yes. The PD40R V3.0 strobes at its full 3,000 lumens and the LD22 V2.0 at its full 800 lumens. Some larger lights and lanterns strobe at a lower level to save power. Because it flashes rather than burns steadily, a strobe catches the eye of someone who is not looking for you.
