Fenix 18650 Flashlights
The 18650 is the cell many Fenix owners already have in a drawer, and for good reason: it hits the sweet spot between pocket size and runtime. This page covers the range, from the PD35R ACE and PD35 V3.0 for everyday carry to the HM60R V2.0 headlamp and twin-cell lights like the TK35R. Need longer runtime and do not mind a thicker body? Step up to 21700 lights.
Dual-fuel: 18650 or CR123A
Some 18650 lights also run on two CR123A lithium primaries. The PD35 V3.0 lists this, and so does the HM60R V2.0. That is real insurance in Canada: CR123A cells keep for years in a glovebox or emergency kit and cope with cold better than alkaline, while the rechargeable 18650 handles daily use. Treat CR123A as the backup, not the daily fuel; it is single-use, and the rechargeable cell is what the light is built around. Charge that 18650 in the light, on the cell, or in a bay charger if you run several.
Not every 18650 fits every light
18650 cells look alike but are not interchangeable. Cells with a built-in USB-C port are slightly longer, and Fenix lists the PD35 V3.0 among the lights that do not accept the ARB-L18-4000U, even though the PD35 V3.0 ships with its own USB-rechargeable cell. Flat-top unprotected cells may not make reliable contact and lack the protection circuit Fenix cells carry. Buy the cell named on the product page, or check the compatibility notes on our batteries page. For spares you charge outside the light, see our chargers.

Frequently asked questions
- Are 18650 spares easy to find in Canada?
- The 18650 is the most common rechargeable flashlight size, and Fenix makes 18650 cells to match its lights. The catch is quality, not supply: marketplace 18650s are often unprotected, rewrapped or overstated in capacity. For a light you rely on, buy the Fenix cell named on the product page, or one listed as compatible with that light.
- Should I pick an 18650 or a 21700 light?
- Pick 18650 if the light rides in a trouser pocket or on a headlamp strap all day; it is slimmer and lighter. Pick 21700 if runtime on the middle modes matters more, as on long winter walks or outage duty. The largest Fenix 18650 holds 4000mAh, while most Fenix 21700 cells hold 5000 to 6000mAh.
- Can I charge the 18650 without taking it out of the light?
- Usually, yes. Many lights on this page have a USB-C port in the body and charge the cell in place. Some Fenix 18650 cells also have a USB port on the cell itself, so a spare can charge without the light. If you keep two or three spares, a bay charger charges them together and shows the status of each cell.
