Fenix Flashlights with Magnetic Tailcap
A magnetic tailcap turns a flashlight into a third hand. Stick it to a fender, a furnace cabinet, a steel stud or the underside of the hood, aim it at the job and keep both hands for the wrench. This list includes small EDC lights, larger flood-style flashlights and headlamps whose lamp detaches and sticks to metal.
Pick the size for the job
For a pocket light that rides along every day, the E18R V2.0 is tiny, puts out 1,200 lumens and carries on a two-way clip. The E12 V3.0 runs on a single AA, so it makes a simple glovebox light; store the cell beside it rather than inside so it cannot leak. When you need to light a whole engine bay or a trailer hitch at night, the C7 Pro throws a wide 87-degree flood at 4,600 lumens and sticks by its magnetic tailcap, with fast USB-C charging between jobs. Headlamps that come off the strap
Several headlamps here have a detachable lamp with a magnetic tail. The HM61R V3.0 is a good example: wear it to walk in, then pull the lamp off and stick it to a beam or a vehicle body so the light stays put while you move around it. Its high-CRI flood helps you read wire colors correctly. If you need a light that stands on a broad base or hangs from a handle, see lights with a magnetic base, and our inspection light guide covers job-site setups.

Frequently asked questions
- How strong are the magnets?
- They are designed to hold the light on a clean steel surface, flat or vertical, including the underside of a hood in many cases. We do not list a pull rating for these models. Thick paint, rust or a curved surface reduces grip, so test the position before you let go, especially with a heavier light such as the C7 Pro.
- Will the magnetic tail stick to a car body?
- On steel panels, yes, which is why these lights are popular for roadside repairs and engine work. Aluminum and plastic panels, common on newer trucks and cars, will not hold a magnet. Inner fender liners are usually plastic too, so look for a steel bracket or frame member nearby.
- Can a magnetic tailcap light still stand on its tail?
- Many can stand on a flat surface, which lets you bounce light off a ceiling during a power outage. The E12 V3.0 is designed for tail standing, and its two-way clip handles bezel-up or bezel-down carry. Larger lights with wider tails, such as the C7 Pro, stand more steadily.
