Tripod-Mountable Fenix Lights
A tripod socket turns a lantern or flashlight into a light stand. Raise it over a campsite, a dock or a roadside repair and the light falls down onto the work instead of into your eyes, with no one stuck holding it. The lights on this short list have a threaded socket that takes a standard tripod; check each product page for what comes in the box. If steel is close by, magnetic base lights are another hands-free route.
Lanterns on a stand
Lanterns are the natural fit. The CL27R combines a tripod socket with a magnetic 360-degree handle and dual rotary dials for brightness and color temperature, plus spot and flood beams and a red mode. The CL30R runs on one to three 18650 cells and Fenix describes it as cold-resistant, which suits ice fishing and winter camping; it charges by Micro USB and can top up a phone in a pinch. Other lanterns on this page add warning lights and power-bank ports. Our night fishing guide shows how a raised light keeps glare off the water.
Flashlights that mount
The LD36R has a quarter-inch tripod socket in the tail and comes with a diffuser tip, so on a stand it becomes a soft area light or, with its color modes, a visible marker. The LR60R is a 21,000-lumen searchlight with a 1,085 m beam, a detachable handle, a shoulder strap and a tripod socket, which makes sense for search crews or anyone lighting a large rural property from a fixed point. Frequently asked questions
- Does a tripod come with these lights?
- Not as a rule. The lights have a threaded socket that fits a standard camera-style tripod, which you buy separately or may already own. Check the box contents on each product page. A light, compact tripod is enough for lanterns; for a heavy searchlight such as the LR60R, use a sturdy stand with a wide base.
- Why mount a lantern instead of hanging it?
- Hanging needs a branch, hook or tent loop at the right height. A tripod lets you put the light exactly where you want it, at the height you want, on open ground, a beach or the ice. Light from above and slightly to one side throws fewer shadows across your hands and your work.
- Which tripod-mountable light works best in winter?
- Fenix describes the CL30R as cold-resistant, and it runs on one, two or three 18650 cells, so you can carry spares in a warm pocket and swap them in. Any lithium-ion light loses runtime in deep cold, so keep the light and spare cells inside your jacket until you set up. Pack a Micro USB cable, since that is how the CL30R charges.
