What is an EDC flashlight and why carry one?

EDC stands for everyday carry — a compact flashlight small and light enough to keep in a pocket, on a keyring, or in a bag every day without thinking about it. A good EDC light handles the small problems a phone light does poorly: finding a dropped key in a dark parking lot, reading a label in a dim basement, walking a trail or a dog after sunset, or navigating a power outage. The whole point is that it is always with you when you need it.

What size and output should I look for in an EDC flashlight?

For everyday carry, a light in the 100 to 1,000 lumen range covers almost every daily task, and a body that fits comfortably in a front pocket or clips inside a waistband is the priority — a light you leave at home because it is too bulky is useless. Compare pocket-friendly size and weight, lumen output for your typical use, runtime on medium (the mode you will actually use most), and whether it has a pocket clip or magnetic tail for carry.

Are Fenix EDC flashlights USB-C rechargeable?

Most are. The majority of current Fenix EDC lights run on a single rechargeable lithium-ion cell with a built-in USB-C port, so you can top up from any phone charger, laptop, or power bank without removing the battery or carrying a separate charger. Some ultra-compact models use a small cell charged in an external bay. Rechargeable cells also hold output steadier across the charge cycle than disposable batteries.

What is the difference between a keychain light and an EDC flashlight?

A keychain light is the smallest tier — ultra-compact, usually under 50 grams, made to clip directly to a keyring or zipper pull as an always-there backup. An EDC flashlight is a step up in size and output: still pocketable, but with more lumens, longer runtime, and a more comfortable grip for regular use.
