What defines a tactical flashlight
Look for tail-switch activation for intuitive use with a shooting grip, high-candela throw for positive identification at distance, and durable construction rated to withstand recoil and impact. Most Fenix tactical lights are USB-C rechargeable and compatible with standard 18650 or 21700 lithium-ion cells, so spare batteries stay ready on your belt or in your cruiser.

Spot, area, and distance
Two lights with similar throw can paint a target very differently. The TK05R drives 1,000 lumens through a deep, narrow reflector — 50,625 cd of peak intensity, 450 m of usable throw, and a tight hot-spot that measures roughly 5 m across at 100 m (about the width of a parking space). The TK16 V2.0 pushes 3,100 lumens through a wider, shallower reflector — 36,100 cd, 380 m of throw, and a hot-spot that opens up to roughly 20 m across at 100 m (about the width of a basketball court). Same target distance, but the TK16 V2.0 covers about 16× more ground in its illuminated disc — and the extra 2,100 lumens go into that wider hot-spot plus a generous side-spill that keeps your peripheral awareness intact while you identify the target. Pick the TK05R when you need to put a clean, isolated spot on a distant point; pick the TK16 V2.0 when you need to read a whole room or a whole alleyway at once.
Charging on the job — two ways, both flexible
Every tactical light on this page ships with one Li-ion cell that powers a full shift on a single charge. Spare cells are an optional add-on for extended use — multi-day deployments, search-and-rescue callouts, or fast turnaround between shifts. The TK17 hides a USB-C port directly inside its ARB-L21-6000B battery — plug the included cable into the cell and you can top it up off-light. If you carry an extra cell, a single cable covers all your charging needs with no extra charger. The TK21R takes the opposite approach: a sealed USB-C port on the flashlight body itself. Plug the cable into the light, no need to open it or pull the cell out — you can charge mid-shift while the light stays in the holster. If you carry an extra cell for the TK21R, rotate it into the body to charge or use a separate Fenix charger. Neither path is better. Battery-side charging keeps the light sealed and lets you stage pre-charged spares; body-side charging skips the disassembly step and protects cell terminals from grit and rain.
