Fenix Lights with 250–499 m Throw
Past 250 m a light stops being about your immediate surroundings and starts reaching across open space: the lake at the cottage, a hayfield, a frozen river, the far side of a gravel pit. This range also holds some of the best one-light carries, including the PD35 V3.0 and PD35R ACE, which pair genuine reach with a body small enough for a jacket pocket.
Small heads, long reach
Throw comes from concentrated intensity, and a well-designed reflector matters more than raw lumens. The PD26R ACE, a short 18350 light, reaches 354 m from 1,300 lumens, and the TK05R reaches 450 m from 1,000 lumens. Several lights on the 100–249 m page make far more lumens yet fall short of that. At the far end of the rating you can spot a shape on the water or the edge of a field, not read detail; real working light sits well inside the number.
Where this range earns its keep
Checking a shoreline or a boat, night fishing from the dock, searching a property for a lost dog and roadside work on rural highways all benefit here. Headlamps reach this band too: the HP35R and HM75R Pro put serious reach on your head. The trade-off is a tighter hotspot that can feel harsh up close, and falling snow or fog reflects a focused beam straight back at you, so use the lower modes close in. Our night fishing light guide covers on-the-water picks. Same-day shipping from Mississauga.

Frequently asked questions
- What is a good everyday light that still reaches over 300 m?
- The PD35 V3.0 is our usual one-light suggestion: 1,700 lumens, 357 m, and it runs on its included 18650 or on two CR123A cells. If you want USB-C charging built in, the PD35R ACE reaches 380 m from 2,000 lumens. For a shorter pocket light, the PD26R ACE uses an 18350 battery and still reaches 354 m.
- Why does my long-throw light look worse in snowfall or fog?
- A focused beam lights up every snowflake or droplet in its path, and that light reflects back toward your eyes and washes out what lies beyond. In those conditions, drop to a lower mode, hold the light away from your eye line, or switch to a floodier light. Clear, dry nights are when throwers show their full reach.
- Can a headlamp really reach 450 m?
- Yes. The HP35R is rated 4,000 lumens and 450 m, powered by a large rechargeable battery case that also works as a power bank. It is built for search, rescue and long nights outdoors rather than casual use. For everyday headlamp tasks, a lighter model in the 100–249 m range is usually more comfortable to wear.
