300–799 Lumen Fenix Lights
This is the range most people actually use, night after night. A few hundred lumens lights a backyard, a campsite or a dark basement during a power outage without bouncing glare off every wall. The list mixes pocket flashlights such as the LD12R, headlamps like the HM50R V2.0 and room-filling lanterns like the CL30R, so you can choose by job and carry style first, and by number second.
Chores, cottage and outage kits
For a reliable everyday light that will not strain a budget, the LD12R takes its own rechargeable 14500 cell or a plain AA, so a spare is never far away. The HM50R V2.0 keeps both hands free for splitting kindling or changing a tire at the roadside. When the lights go out in an ice storm, a lantern such as the CL30R fills a whole room instead of a single spot. Our cottage lighting kit guide shows how to combine them.
Lumens are not the whole story
Two lights with the same output can behave very differently. The TK30 is rated at 500 lumens, yet its white laser beam reaches 1,200 metres, farther than many lights ten times brighter, because it packs all of its light into a narrow beam. The lanterns here do the opposite and spread light in every direction across a short distance. If reach matters more than brightness, sort by beam distance instead.

Frequently asked questions
- Is 500 lumens bright enough outdoors?
- For most around-home and camp jobs, yes. Around 500 lumens lights a driveway, a trail a few dozen metres ahead or a campsite comfortably. It will feel dim when scanning across a field or a large lot. In those cases, step up to the 800 to 1,499 lumen range, or higher, or choose a light with a long beam distance rating.
- Flashlight, headlamp or lantern: which should I pick?
- Pick by what your hands are doing. A flashlight is best for pointing and searching. A headlamp follows your eyes and leaves both hands free for tools, cooking or first aid. A lantern lights a whole space at once, which suits a tent, a cabin table or a dark kitchen during an outage. Many households end up with one of each.
- Why do the lanterns show such a short distance?
- Many lanterns are not rated for throw at all. Fenix rates the CL26R Pro by beam diameter, the width of the lit circle around it, which is 15 metres, and the CL30R at 35 metres; that figure sits in the distance slot on the product card. A lantern spreads its output in every direction to light a room or campsite evenly, so compare lanterns with each other, not with flashlights.
- Can I use regular AA batteries in any of these?
- Some, yes. The LD12R accepts its included 14500 rechargeable cell or a single AA, and the HM23 V2.0 headlamp runs on AA. Many others use built-in or lithium-ion cells for higher output in a smaller body. Check the battery section on each product page if being able to buy fuel at any store matters to you.
