Fenix Flat EDC Flashlights: E06R Pro, E06R Pro RG and E08R UE Compared
Round flashlights roll off tables and bulge in a jeans pocket. Fenix's flat lights do neither. Each one is a slim aluminium slab about 12 cm long and 3 cm wide — roughly the length of a credit card and a half — with a clip, a built-in USB-C battery and a 1,600-lumen turbo that lights up a whole back yard. Slip one in a pocket in the morning and forget it's there until you need it.
There are three of them. They share the same powerful white light, and each adds something different: UV, a red night-vision light, a green laser, a tail switch for instant full power. This guide shows you what each does well and which one suits you. Everything ships from Mississauga, Ontario, with Fenix warranty service handled in Canada; prices are in Canadian dollars.

Which one is yours
E06R Pro — the everyday all-rounder
Two lights in one: a cool-white spot that reaches 153 m down the street, and a neutral-white flood that lights up the whole garage bench without a hotspot. Need everything at once? Hold the tail switch and turbo fires both for 1,600 lumens. The UV light finds pet stains, checks banknotes and documents, and traces leaks with UV dye. It is the light for dog walks, the back yard and the walk from the parking lot.

E06R Pro RG — made for the outdoors
Everything the Pro does with white light, plus a real red light and a bright green laser. Red light keeps your night vision, so you can read a map, sort gear in the tent, tie a knot on the dock or look up at the stars without going blind for the next ten minutes. The green laser stays easy to see outdoors, even in daylight. For $15 more than the Pro, it's our pick for campers, cottagers, anglers and stargazers.

E08R UE — the one with everything
All the Pro RG's lights, with a tail switch built for instant full power. Press and hold the tail and you have 1,600 lumens straight away; let go and it's off. Hold it three seconds to stay in turbo; double-click for strobe. The deep-carry clip rides low and secure, and an 8-lumen white side light handles close-up tasks. For the person who wants the best one.

Heading into the field? These are perfect camp companions. For hunting itself, a dedicated light such as the HT32R — or anything on our hunting flashlights page — is built for the job.
Pocket-safe in two seconds
All three lights have an electronic lockout, so they stay off in a pocket, a bag or the glovebox until you want them. Lock the light when it goes in your pocket and unlock it when it comes out — it becomes a habit in a day.
How to lock each model (with the light switched off):
- E06R Pro: press and hold the purple (UV) switch and the red (laser) switch together for 2 seconds. The light blinks twice to confirm it is locked.
- E06R Pro RG and E08R UE: press and hold the green (laser) switch and the red switch together for 2 seconds. The light blinks twice to confirm it is locked.
- To unlock, hold the same two switches for 2 seconds again. The light wakes at its gentlest setting, ready to go.
What the laser is great for
A laser in your pocket turns out to be surprisingly handy. Point out exactly which pipe needs fixing, which branch is coming down, which star is Polaris, or which line on the slide you mean. Cats love it too — on the floor, never in their eyes.
Pick the colour for where you'll use it:
- Red laser (E06R Pro) — ideal indoors: meetings, classrooms, the workshop, the attic.
- Green laser (E06R Pro RG, E08R UE) — the eye is far more sensitive to green, so at the same power a 520 nm green dot looks roughly six to seven times brighter than red. It stays clearly visible outdoors, across a job site and in daylight.
The laser is safe when it's used as a pointer. Three simple rules:
- Never point it at eyes — people's or animals'.
- Never point it at aircraft, drones, or drivers and vehicles.
- Keep it away from children — it's a tool, not a toy.
Real-world runtime and charging
The 1,650 mAh battery goes a long way. On Low (150 lumens — plenty for a sidewalk) you get 4 h 30 min, which is more than a week of 30-minute evening dog walks per charge. On Medium you get 2 h 30 min at 350 lumens, and Eco runs for a full day. The Pro RG and E08R UE refill from empty in about 2.5 hours on any USB-C charger, and a battery indicator tells you when it's time.
The battery is built in and sealed, which is what keeps the body slim and IP66 rated — there are no cells to buy, swap or charge separately. Just top it up by USB-C like your phone.
Turbo is your full-blast button: 1,600 lumens for the moment you need to see the whole yard or the far end of the trail. As the body warms up, the light eases back automatically to keep itself comfortable in your hand, and once it cools you can step straight back up. For a light this small, that is as good as it gets.
If you need high output for long stretches, step up to a full-size pocket light: the PD35 V3.0 (1,700 lm, swappable 18650 battery, $114.95) or the PD40R V3.0 (3,000 lm, 500 m, $166.95).
The light ring: the fun part
Every one of these lights has a colour light ring around the head — red, blue and red-blue flashing and colour cycling, with a soft aurora effect on the E06R Pro and Pro RG. The E08R UE goes further with a digital dice (shake it twice for a random 1 to 6) and a 36-second hourglass timer.
It's the feature people end up showing their friends. Set the light on the picnic table with a slow colour cycle and everyone at the campsite knows dinner is ready. Roll the dice to decide who does the dishes. Flash red to mark where the car is parked at a dark trailhead. The white light does the work; the ring makes it fun.
A gift that actually gets used
- For the person who has everything: the E08R UE — the dice and hourglass modes win over even non-flashlight people.
- For the camper, cottager or angler: the E06R Pro RG in orange — easy to spot if it's dropped in the grass.
- For the homeowner or commuter: the E06R Pro in black.
- Every one of them ships free — no need to add anything to the cart.
Simple care
These lights are built for daily carry — aluminium bodies, IP66 sealed, drop tested. A little care keeps them looking and working like new:
- Wipe the lenses when they look smudged.
- Keep the USB-C port free of lint; a puff of air does it.
- Top up a light in storage every few months to keep the battery healthy.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the E06R Pro and the E06R Pro RG?
The body, white light, battery and 1,600-lumen turbo are identical. The Pro has a UV light and a red laser. The Pro RG swaps them for a night-vision red light (5 or 50 lumens) and a green laser that is much easier to see outdoors.
Is the E08R UE worth the extra over the E06R Pro RG?
If you want full power instantly, yes. All three have a tail switch, but the E08R UE's gives momentary turbo — press and hold for 1,600 lumens, let go and it's off — plus strobe on a double-click. It also adds a deep-carry clip, a white side light and dice and timer modes. If you mostly use the everyday white light settings, the Pro RG gives you the same light sources for $35 less.
How big are they?
About 12 cm long, 3 cm wide and under 2 cm thick — roughly the length of a credit card and a half. The E06R Pro and Pro RG weigh 104 g; the E08R UE weighs 125 g.
How do I stop it turning on in my pocket?
Use the lockout. On the E06R Pro, hold the purple and red switches together for 2 seconds; on the E06R Pro RG and E08R UE, hold the green and red switches together for 2 seconds. The light blinks twice when locked.
Which laser colour should I choose?
Red for indoor use — meetings, classrooms and the workshop. Green for outdoors: the eye is far more sensitive to green, so the dot stays clearly visible across a field, a job site or in daylight. Green comes on the E06R Pro RG and E08R UE.
How long does the battery last?
Low (150 lumens) runs 4 h 30 min, Medium (350 lumens) 2 h 30 min and Eco a full day. The Pro RG and E08R UE recharge from empty in about 2.5 hours by USB-C.
